The JESSUP Committee Group held its Annual General Meeting on Thursday 11 July, at the SW9 Resource Centre, 13 Benedict Road, SW9 0FS. The open meeting was attended by a number of SW9 residents and other guests including SW9's Executive Director, Delroy Rankin, Head of Customer Service, Kellie Carson and members of the wider community.
JESSUP was formed by 5 female residents – Judith Palmer, Marcia Scott, Helen Jackson, Sharon Foster, and Audrey Francis – who over the past 14 years, have volunteered to support SW9 initiatives, with the aim to bring a sense of community to residents through activities organised by residents.
JESSUP’s inaugural meeting was held in January 2023, where the 5 founding members were officially elected.
At the AGM, the history of the group was recounted, a discussion on the impact that JESSUP has with fellow residents and the wider community, alongside a visual presentation of past and current organised events, including the Tabletop Sale event of July 2023, the JESSUP Christmas Market held in November 2023, and the long-standing and popular Easter & Christmas Hampers’ making and distributing events.
Plans for future initiatives were also on the agenda; possibilities included introducing a series of regular Bingo Nights and the introduction of a Board Games Night; a series of Arts & Crafts Workshops to encourage skills in sewing, knitting and other forms of creativity; a Drama Club focusing on Team Building; and of course, the continuation of the Easter & Christmas Hampers’ Making and Distribution initiative.
The evening concluded with refreshments and an open forum.
