Domestic Abuse

This includes controlling, coercive, or threatening behaviour, violence, or abuse between those aged 16 or over who are/have been intimate partners or family members, regardless of gender or sexuality. It also includes so called ‘honour’-based violence, female genital mutilation (FGM) and forced marriage.


Signs:
• Low self-esteem
• An individual blaming themselves for the abuse
• Physical evidence of violence such as broken bones, bruising, cuts
• An individual called names, verbally abused, or humiliated in front of others
• Fear of outside intervention
• Damage to home/property
• Cut off from family and/or friends
• Limited access to money
